Green to Grow BPA Free Bottles

I'm still undecided whether to change Kendra's bottles or not as I still have plenty of stock of the Philips Avent bottles. If I were to change all her milk bottles, "Green to Grow" bottles will be the first brand I will consider.

This is how the bottles looks like...... it's cute, right?

Other than milk bottles, I intend to get her a BPA free drinking cup too. What do u think about this donut shape cup?

Bisphenol A (BPA) on Baby Bottles

I'm sure that most of the mommies are shocked like me when read the article I posted couple of minutes ago about the bottles that containing BPA. I've gathered some info for you all about the BPA on Philips Avent bottles (I knew most of you are using this brand) Other than this, I've attached some useful info for your reference too....check it out for the safe sake of your baby/toddlers.

Plastic Bottles Recall in Canada

I was shock to read about this article from The New York Times when I'm hopping around:

OTTAWA — The Canadian government moved Friday to ban polycarbonate infant bottles as it officially declared one of their chemical ingredients toxic.

Nalgene brand water bottles had used bisphenol-a, which some studies in animals linked to hormonal changes.

The move by the departments of health and environment is the first action taken by any government against bisphenol-a, or B.P.A., a chemical that mimics a human hormone and that has induced long-term changes in animals exposed to it through tests.

“We’re not waiting to take action to protect our people and our environment from the long-term effects of bisphenol-a,” the environment minister, John Baird, told a news conference.

The most immediate impact of the toxic designation will be a ban on the importation and sale of baby bottles made with clear, hard polycarbonate. That move will not take effect until the end of a 60-day discussion period, however.

The health minister, Tony Clement, told reporters that after reviewing 150 research papers on B.P.A. and conducting its own studies, his department concluded that the chemical posed the most risk for newborns and children up to the age of 18 months. The minister said that animal studies suggest “there will be behavioral and neural symptoms later in life.”

Not only are potentially unsafe exposure levels to B.P.A. lower for children than adults, Mr. Clement said that cleaning infant bottles with boiling causes the release of the chemical into their contents.

He suggested that the government had planned to also ban the use of epoxies made with B.P.A. and sprayed into most infant formula cans as a lining. But, he added that no practical alternative is currently available.

Both ministers, however, insisted that current research showed that adults who use food and beverage containers made with B.P.A. related plastics were not at risk.

“For the average Canadian consuming things in those products, there is no risk today,” Mr. Clement said.

The government will, however, begin monitoring the B.P.A. exposure of 5,000 people between now and 2009. If research indicates a danger to adults, the government will take additional action, the officials said.

In addition to its concerns about infants and young children, the government said that its B.P.A. review found that even low levels of the chemical can harm fish and other aquatic life forms over time.

If the baby bottle ban takes effect on June 19, an event that can only be derailed by significant new evidence, it may have little practical effect.

Reports earlier this week indicating that the government would declare B.P.A. toxic prompted a rush by most of Canada’s major retailers to remove food-related B.P.A. products from their stores. The company’s largest druggist, Shoppers Drug Mart, took the step on Friday at its 1,080 stores shortly before the announcement.

Nalgene, the company that turned polycarbonate bottles from a piece of lab equipment into a popular drink container, has also decided to drop the plastic and use others plastics that do not contain B.P.A.

In Washington on Friday, Senator Charles E. Schumer, a Democrat from New York, said in a statement that he intended to introduce a bill that would create a widespread ban on B.P.A.-related plastics. It would prohibit their use in all children’s products as well as any product use to carry food or beverages for adults.

Potty Train

Since few of the mommies in Multiply had successfully train their toddlers off the diapers, I had decided to try my very best to Kendra. While searching the net about the potty train, I found this cute and useful website.

I've printed out the chart and the sticker of the Dora the Explorer and will stick it on the door of our toilet to encourage Kendra. Here it is...........

Fisher Price Toys Being Recalled!!!

Fisher-Price toys being recalled due to toxic content (updated)

PETALING JAYA: Mattel South-East Asia (Malaysia) Pte Ltd is recalling three made-in-China Fisher-Price products because they have excessive amounts of lead.

In the United States, Fisher-Price announced today it is recalling 83 types of toys, including the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters, because of excessive amounts of lead in their paint.

However, according to Mattel South-East Asia Pte Ltd (Malaysia) marketing manager Cheok Ching Won, only three of the 83 toys are being sold in Malaysia.

The three toys -- Barney Best Manner Phone (serial number B6966), Sing N Play Alphabook (B7418) and Sesame Street Giggle Surprise Giggle (C1211) -- are amongst the nearly one million toys US toy giant Fisher-Price said it was recalling.

The recall involved 967,000 plastic preschool toys made by a Chinese vendor, and sold in the United States between May and August.

It is the latest in a wave of recalls that has heightened global concern about the safety of Chinese-made products.

The recall is the first for Fisher-Price Inc and parent company Mattel Inc involving lead paint. It is the largest for Mattel since 1998 when Fisher-Price had to recall about 10 million Power Wheels from toy stores.

Cheok said letters had been sent out to all leading departmental and toy speciality stores where the products were sold. She added that the retailers were asked to remove the affected toys from their stores immediately.

"Advertisements will be placed in the newspapers as soon as possible to inform the public on the matter, and those who had purchased the toys will get a full refund from Mattel.

"The affected toys were manufactured between April 19 and July 6 by a manufacturer in China, and during that period less than 500 of the three products were distributed to the respective stores nationwide," she said.

According to her, photos of the three products would be included in the announcement in local newspapers to make it easier for the public to identify them.

"Our priority is to ensure the safety of the children, and therefore necessary steps are being taken," she added.

It is learnt that although the three products were available in the country since January, the excessive amounts of lead in the paint was only discovered since a new manufacturer had produced the toys within that period.

Conceive

Just received a call form my ex-colleague and being inform that she is expecting for her second baby. I'm so happy for her and at the same time was so down for myself.

I got to know that she just try for about one month plus then conceived already. How come it's so difficult for me..?????? I started to plan since last December but still no news yet up to now. Hubby and I were so desparate eveytime we heard someone we knew is pregnant. Most of my friend will comfort me and ask me not to think so much and have to be more relax. How I'm going to be relax....... the age gap for Kendra and the little one will be far away if I'm still not conceive......this is what I worried the most!

Snoopy's Cutting Masher

If you ask me what is the most satisfy stuff I bought during my Japan trip, sure I will tell you this is the one.......... "Cutting Masher with Case"

I bought it in the Snoopy Town in Harajuku at 787 yen. It's really convenient to use especially for us that always dine outside. I use it to cut the noodles into small pieces for Kendra so that she can have what I ate. Other than use it as a noodles cutter, it can be use as a masher too. I used it to mash everything before feed it to Kendra. It comes with a clear case which I found it's hygiene enough for you to carry it anywhere you like.

Japanese Snack/Biscuit

Felix bought a lots of Japanese Baby Biscuit for Kendra on his trip back. All are in very nice packing and Kendra like it so much. She keep on passing the box to me and hope that I'll open it for her.

I noticed that most of the Japanese food is less/without preservative. Like some snacks we bought in Japan during our trip, was expired 3-4 days after we were back to Malaysia. Like this biscuit and snacks was only can be keep about 2 to 3 months from the manufacturing date. I feel more comfortable to let Kendra have this kind of snacks.

As this topic was bring out by some of the MJ members, I'm keen to let Kendra try on it to save some money on the disposable diapers. Still in the searching stage to find out more about this diapers as too many brand were in the market. Here are some brand that I'm looking into:

My Diapers Stock

Finally I managed to grab the discounted Mamy Poko at Tesco yesterday after so many times of attemps. I didn't thought of they got stock for the size I want but just give a try since we are having dinner there. So happy that they got stock for size M and without thinking too much, quickly I grab 4 packs of it and another 4 packs of MP pants. After checking out, we go and have dinner and hubby decided to go back and "sapu" another 2 pack of size XL plus the MP pants. The MP pants is super cheap with the RM3.00 rebate, only cost us RM13.60 per pack after the rebate.
