From my last post, Kendra was having cough + phlegm on and off for more than a month. I've stop to feed her the medicines when I noticed that her condition is getting better but sad to said that the cough came back again after the stop. I have no choice but continue feed her with the medicines.
I've google out some info about this medicine..... Singulair Oral granules 4 mg and this is what my findings:
What is Singulair?
Singulair is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms.
Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
Do not give Singulair to a child without a doctor's advice.Singulair is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the air passages in the lungs) in people who are not already taking this medicine for other conditions.
If you already take Singulair to prevent asthma or allergy symptoms, do not use it for exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.Singulair may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide

Adam was on Singulair for 3 months when he was 5 yrs old. Recently, he took singulair again as
he have the cough & phlegm that doesn't seems to go away. After taking the singulair, he receovered. U need to follow what the doc has prescribed, u can't stop it as at when u think is not necessary. It will not help if u stop half way. Now, I let him take Excel product. Hope it will help to boost his immune system.
My boy took it before on this powder form and chewable too. I can say it does help.
When I see his cough stop and breathing is normal, I stop that..don't eat that for too long if you feel that she is ok...3 months is kinda long...but always still get your doctor advice, coz i'm not sure how serious cough she is getting...
"Hou zou san" helps for phlegm, did you try that out on her? how is it? you should get the hou zou originally without in powder form yet...normally is around RM70-90 for 1 "fen" ..when the time you buy only ask them to smash it into powder and add "qun pui".
Little Xandria took Sigular as well when she was dignosed with throat infection, coughing, phlegm.
Agreed with Judy, u should try on 'Hou Zou san' as it does help to reduce the phlegm.
Btw, a tag for you.
hi peimun, stumbled on your blog. my baby has tried singulair once when she had a cough and flu. singulair helps to open up the lungs to help baby breathe better at night (hence sleep better). Very effective med though.
For cough perhaps you can try Rhinathiol Promethazine? Please check with the pediatrician on this but it's rather effective.
